THOERMER - The TRIBECA HOME Collection

THOERMER, founded in 1898 by RUDOLF THÖRMER, is a family-owned enterprise with a long tradition, that has made a point of developing particularly high-value and comfortable upholstered furniture and beds with a timelessly noble touch. The order-specific production takes place as mechanical job-shop employing selected materials of high quality levels. For more than 100 years the focus of our entrepreneurial work has been on the development and production of exquisite upholstered furniture.

In 1975 JÜRGEN DEGEN, son-in-law of KURT C.F. THÖRMER, and his wife CHRISTINE DEGEN, née THÖRMER, joined the management. Therewith a new leaf of the company’s development was turned over. The renowned interior architect and designer was also a master of upholstery, a fact that made the beginning of his new task a lot easier. Continuity of craftsmanship and material quality on the one hand, innovation of product designs and appearance of the collection on the other hand – that is how he described his “credo”. Inspired by his passion for travelling with stays in London, Paris and New York THOERMER clearly gained cosmopolitan influence; a collection of international class was developed. Degen always committed himself to eclecticism, however all quotations always involve contemporary interpretations. He always knew how far he could push the historic model without crossing borders. In 2002 Mr and Mrs Degen retired into private life.

Today the THOERMER design team makes sure that the high quality standards in design, craftsmanship and selection of materials are kept.

Furthermore we have taken over production for renowned brands for many years, e.g. for DONGHIA, ENSEMBLE BY JOHN HUTTON, and WK-WOHNEN.

THOERMER Management (Associatss and Directors)

Supported by their family, their best friends and  VOLKER NIEMANN, who was Sales Director of THOERMER / DESIGNER’S FANTASY at that time,  ANDREA GRATT, née DRÄGER, and her husband,  GERD GRATT, acquired all activities from the Thörmer - Degen family, in 2002. Until 2007 Andrea Gratt and Volker Niemann run the business. By the middle of the year 2007 Gerd Gratt joined the management. Decades of experience in the business which he acquired in several leading positions made the entry into self-employment easier for him. Among other positions he was the long-term President and European CEO of DONGHIA FURNITURE / TEXTILES (1992 – 2007), the Managing Director of Sales, Marketing and Production of KAUFELD – GROUP (1990 – 1996), and Assistant to the management / Sales Manager of  BW BIELEFELDER WERKSTÄTTEN (JAB GROUP) (1976 – 1990).
